Engagement Buffalo, MN Kaylee and Ben | Minneapolis Wedding Photographer Julie Kiernan

Love is in the air! It was such an honor to photograph them.

Who We Become will continue with a once a month favorite image. My favorite is from a recent engagement session with Kaylee and Ben. We were on his family’s land and it was so gorgeous with sweeping views of fields, golden grasses, ponds and trees.  I could have photographed there all day. The sunset on the pond, combined with the fall colors, were just spectacular. I cannot wait for their New Year’s Eve wedding! Congratulations Kaylee and Ben!

In 2016, I am so excited to be offering weddings, along with engagement, elopement, and anniversary sessions. I would love to photograph you and yours! Of course, I will continue to offer senior and families as well as modern portraiture in my studio. Which leads me to more exciting news, I now have a studio, so we can do your portrait sessions in my beautifully lit and modern studio, as well as on location. Every year just gets better and I feel like so much of what I have learned in this business or craft has led me to weddings. While weddings involve lots of people, I really like that the focus is on the couple, just like high school senior sessions are focused on the senior. I love working with one or two people and really getting to know them and capturing their beauty, spirit and emotion in a very personal way. I am organized, and remain calm under pressure. Plus, I like to have fun, and wedding and senior sessions should be just that. Fun.

Congratulations to Kaylee and Ben! I can't wait for your wedding.

One Kid One Roll Once a Month September-Minneapolis and Buffalo MN Family Photographer

While I have four children, Ali has been my most willing subject this summer. I know she won't be home for long, as she will start medical school this fall, so I am taking advantage of making film portraits of her every chance I get. Truth be told, my dogs are in more of my film work than any of the kids. I joke it should be one dog, one roll for me.

These were all shot with my Canon AE-1P on Fuji 400H film. I adore this little camera, and while I want to be a Kodak Portra girl, this Fuji 400H  film always grabs my attention with its colors and tones. The colors are so soft and lovely. I think they capture my blonde-haired, blue-eyed daughter really well. It is also a perfect film for weddings and I am practicing with it in anticipation of Kelly's wedding in December. These were captured on a beautiful Minnesota summer day.

This is such a wonderful group of mothers and film photographers. I am so grateful and happy to be part of this group of talented women.

52.3 Who we Become | Curious

This week's word is curious. This is something I was curious to see. Just past Pierz, MN there is a sunflower farm with fields of sunflowers. I've always thought they were such a cheerful, happy flower. Smude's Enterprise makes and distributes virgin sunflower oil. The view was spectacular! We were on our way to the cabin, so Tom and the boys were in the car waiting ever so patiently for me. Ben decided to photograph them too and helped me carry my lens. I captured these with my digital camera, but also on film. I am just sending them in, so I'll share those in a few weeks.

52.3 Blog-Who We Become

I have been missing in action on this blog all summer, but photographing a lot of client sessions, as well as personal work. In this third year of our blog circle, we are shooting with a specific adjective in mind each week. It may not be a literal interpretation, but rather a feeling or mood that the image exudes.  In an attempt to catch up from this summer, I am doing one post, with multiple images. Many are new, but some are from the archives because they felt right for the adjective. Stick with me though, as beside this short paragraph, you will only see pictures.  I hope you enjoy them!
