Walking through the shadows of the valley of death

Today marks 5 years since my dear sister, Sue, went to her heavenly home. I miss her more than words can express. She always had a twinkle in her eye. I am reminded that when we walk through life's valleys, we should keep on walking THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death until we can once again see the light. Cancer is evil and life is unfair, but there can be a peace and understanding in His light.

"The shadow of death. What is a shadow? A shadow is caused when something blocks out light. There cannot be shadows without the sun shining, and the shadow of death cannot blight our lives unless the experience of death comes between us and the sun. Similarly, the pain we feel at the loss of love is, in its own way, a tribute to how precious and warming that love was to us. I am reminded of the line in Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, when he speaks of those who "stand with their backs to the sun and what is the sun to them but a caster of shadows?" For all those who hurt because of the loss of love...I would call their attention to one word in the line from the 23rd Psalm...a word you many not have noticed: Though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death." from one of my favorite authors, Harold S. Kushner author of The Lord is My Shepherd: healing widsom of the 23rd Psalm. Thus, we need to keep walking through life's valleys until the sun shines upon us once again.
